Even though your future depends on being able to submit an impressive answer to one of the UW essay prompts, one of the best pieces of advice you should definitely keep in mind is to try and relax. No matter how long and hard you stare at the list of those UW essay prompts 2020, nothing good will come out of it if you don’t give yourself a break from time to time. The writing process is frustrating in itself, so stressing out about every single little thing will not be helpful in any way. To make it at least a little bit easier for you, here are a few potential ideas on how to approach the issues you are supposed to discuss in the essay prompts.

Essay prompt: Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.

In this section, you are required to dwell upon an event or a situation that has changed you or reshaped your world. It can be anything you want, as long as it has been a transformative experience for you. Here are a few ideas.

As simple as it may sound, adopting a dog has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Going to the shelter was emotional, and it obviously made me want to adopt every single abandoned animal on the planet. Yet, getting a dog and realizing that I am now responsible for them has helped me understand what kind of person I want to be, and how I want to live my life. I am now responsible for my dog. To them, I am the one who takes care of them, no matter what they need: shelter, food, playtime, walks, comfort. My dog is 100% sure they can trust me, and I have no moral right to lose their trust. No matter what I do, no matter where I am, my dog will always think of me as their carer and protector. I am their human. I am their parent.

Having made the decision to adopt a dog, I have accepted this responsibility which has helped me understand how important it is to be able to take responsibility. What is more, it has helped me transform into a better person who is no longer afraid of becoming an adult and making decisions. Some of those decisions may be easy. Others will be tough. Yet, I am now fully aware of the fact that all actions have consequences, and it is my responsibility to act responsibly no matter what I do. Because I am not the only one living on the planet.

What is more, the world does not turn around me. But I’m glad it doesn’t. It shouldn’t turn around anyone. The world is a place where everyone should live in peace and comfort knowing that they have people they can rely on, and knowing that there are people who will take care of them. My dog is an animal. Yet, to me they are so much more than an animal. And I want them to know that they can fully rely on me no matter what.

Short response: Our families and communities often define us and our individual worlds. Community might refer to your cultural group, extended family, religious group, neighborhood or school, sports team or club, co-workers, etc. Describe the world you come from and how you, as a product of it, might add to the diversity of the UW.

I never really thought about my background until relatively recently. I grew up in a happy family. I had everything I needed. What is more, I had everything I wanted. I come from an average middle class family, and I can’t say there were a lot of hardships we had to experience. Yet, the more I observe the world and the country we live in, the more I realize what privilege is. I used to think everyone has what I have. I used to believe everyone has the same opportunities I have benefited from. Until relatively recently. Until I started to pay more attention: to my classmates, to my neighbours, to the people I meet when I go grocery shopping.

When people think of such words as background or community, they either imagine one’s closest family and friends or the ethnic community they identify with. While all of that is true, I’ve started to realize that it is so much more than that. A random person you meet on the subway can have a much more profound effect on you and your further actions than your aunt who you get to see every Christmas. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Because I believe that the people I meet are a part of my community and my individual world as well even if I get to see them only once in my entire life. If meeting a random person had an effect on me, these people matter more than I could ever imagine. Every single person I’ve met has taught me something. Some changed me. Some did not agree with me. Some explained why they have certain beliefs. Some didn’t. Yet, the most important thing is that each and every single one of them have transformed me. As a result of that transformation, I am who I am now. I have the whole world inside me, and it makes me special. It provides me with something unique which I am willing to offer and share to make the life and studying process at the University of Washington more diverse.

I have a lot to contribute. I am also willing to learn because I truly want to become a part of the community at the University of Washington. I just need a chance to demonstrate how much I can offer. We are shaped by our families, by the environment we grow up in, and by the communities we belong to. Yet, we rarely stay the same. And that is the beauty of life. We change, we grow, ww adapt, we transform. As a result of that, we gain experience which helps us become a better person and contribute more to the community to make sure that it remains as diverse as possible. We need to do it because we want everyone to feel welcome. Studying at the University of Washington is a great opportunity to start such a welcoming college community, and to maintain this bond for life. Surely, not everyone can do that, and not every educational institution manages to have such communities. Yet, I am convinced that the University of Washington is a perfect place to be. It is a perfect place for me. I am willing to do my best not only to become an excellent student, but also to contribute to the diversity of the community to the best of my ability.
