While I’m not a movie buff, I love my TV shows. I watch more shows than I’d care to admit, but here are some of my favorites this season!
1. “Nashville”
Can’t get enough of this show! The ABC show’s plot centers around the lives of two female country stars Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) who are both dealing with the ups and downs of the music industry. Rayna is an older woman who is trying to keep her musical integrity while dealing with a changing business climate, while Juliette is an up-and-coming superstar who wishes desperately to be respected in the music world. The plot also has some political counterparts, as Rayna’s husband is running for mayor of Nashville. Another charming aspect is that it is filmed in Nashville, so you see great shots of iconic places in Music City, such as the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium.
2. “Revenge”
It’s hard to convince my guy friends that this isn’t a “girl show.” It’s definitely a thriller that both genders can enjoy. You never know who is going to come after who … and when someone’s life will be on the line. It’s also mysterious; you’re never quite sure what is going on in the mind of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), so you have to pay close attention or you miss the twists and turns in the plot line. The second season of the ABC show has yet to disappoint!
3. “The Mindy Project”
I wasn’t sure if I would like this show. While I know I loved Mindy Kaling on “The Office,” I wasn’t sure how I would feel about her starring as the lead in her own show on Fox. I’ve come to learn that Mindy can most definitely hold her own – and that she is hilarious as a boy-crazy doctor who is struggling with the road blocks of adulthood all while looking for the man of her dreams. As a post-grad, I can definitely relate to her! Her co-stars also are amazing. Definitely one of my new favorites!
4. “Shark Tank”
While this show is in its fourth season, it’s definitely one you can’t miss. Not only do you get to learn more about business (perfect for college students interested in going into the field), but you learn more about the mindset of some of America’s richest entrepreneurs. It keeps you on the edge of your seat guessing which businesses are going to get the offers … and which ones they will pick. While this is a reality show, it’s definitely simultaneously educational. Not too shabby!
5. “Real Housewives of Miami”
So, while most of you will disagree with this one, I’m going to go ahead and defend my choice in the “guilty pleasure” category. This is the second season for the Miami cast, but it is significantly better than the first one. Not only are all of the women interesting, the drama is even bigger than other shows with some Latina spice. While I’m still trying to figure out who I like (and who I don’t), these ladies definitely keep it interesting!
