Religion in College: How Important is Your Faith?

Many students get to college with some form of faith in hand.

Whether you grew up going to church every weekend or you just attended on major religious holidays, students will typically have an idea of what their faith is (or at least what the faith of their family is) upon entering college.

But what happens when no one is there to make you go to church or say your prayers at night? How important is religion in college and what can it offer to students?

Prayer can give you peace of mind.

Whether you believe you’re praying to someone or talking to yourself, discussing your fears, hopes and dreams out loud or in your head, can really grant clarity and peace.

You don’t have to say prayers or chant something from your respective religious organization, but talking to someone who isn’t there to “talk back,” judge you, or make you feel insecure about your fears can really put your mind at ease.

If you are having doubts about something or you just need to get something out, prayer can offer you such an outlet.

Prayer can give you hope.

Maybe you’re gunning for a promotion, new job or acing a test; whatever it is you want or feel you deserve, praying for it, asking for confidence and strength, can make you feel more in control of your future.

If you feel like you have someone backing you up, you may actually feel more confident and powerful toward achieving your goal(s) and therefore, be more apt to achieve them.

Sometimes prayer toward achieving your goals can fill you with energy and a sense of inner peace, a feeling that someone or something is there pushing you toward the things you want in your life.

Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction simply states: “Like attracts like.” So, what does this have to do with prayer?

If you pray and believe you will pass a test, get a job or attain that certain something you’ve been pushing for, by the Law of Attraction, it must come to you.

Pray and believe in yourself that you do in fact HAVE the job, that you ACED the test, and that you HAVE success in your life and therefore, it will come to you.

Prayer can make your life feel more purposeful

If you have a relationship with God and use prayer to create that relationship, your life can feel more directed and purposeful.

If you feel like certain things are happening for a reason and that there is in fact a plan for you in this world, your life can become more meaningful.

Let’s say you DON’T get that job, that guy/girl DOESN’T fall for you, or you DON’T get into that grad school you applied for; if you have a relationship with God and have faith in your life, those things won’t seem as horrible when or if they happen to you.

If you believe that things happen for a reason and they happened because something BIGGER and BETTER is waiting for you in wings, disappointments and losses will never seem so bad.

Religion and faith can have a huge impact on your life

You don’t have to go to church to be religious or have faith, but becoming religious and acquiring faith in your life can really change the person you are and therefore, help you to become the person you want to be.

Have faith in yourself, your life, and God, and the rest will fall into place.

“Let nothing disturb thee; Let nothing dismay thee; All things pass; God never changes. Patience attains all that it strives for. He who has God finds he lacks nothing: God alone suffices.”
