“It’s Britney B*tch”. The Princess of Pop is back and thank goodness. Blackout was such a standout album and Circus was her trying to toy with the success from Blackout.
It wasn’t as successful, nor as strong, but sold pretty well. Coming this March, her next album Femme Fatale will be coming out and I couldn’t be more excited.
Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me
That’s right. I am in love with this song and I’ll tell you why. Britney Spears has been spearheading America’s pop music since her inception (BWAHRRMM “A dream within a dream?”). You may be thinking, “Really Brandon? C’mon, this is a sick joke right?” Wrong. Absolutely wrong.
Just like Madonna spearheaded her generations pop sound, so has Britney Spears. Britney’s involvement with Max Martin to create the hits “Hit Me Baby One More Time” and “Oops! I Did It Again” gave death to the hybrid “new jack swing” Michael Jackson created in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
Moving to the present. Dubstep has been huge in Europe for around 15 years. Dubstep is currently undergoing a change with the advent of James Blake, but it has started to hit America underground the past 5. And now we have it hitting the airwaves with her new song.
The bass line is heavy, wobbles, and the pre-chorus is very trance like with vocals and minimal instrumentation. The breakdown is highly dub influenced with wobble bass and buzz saw synth work and it works here. The remixes for this single are going to be ridiculous. I guarantee you they will be varied, heavy, amazing. I tip my hat off to you Britney. Here’s to hoping your new album is the pop album of the year like your album Blackout was in 2007.
