This upcoming semester proves to be a treasure-trove of new theatrical releases. If you’re looking for a reason to leave your dorm, need a night out with friends, or are searching for something to see with a significant other; here are some choices for you to spend a gross amount of money on approximately two hours of moving pictures.
September:
Finding Nemo 3D: We all fell in love with it nearly ten years ago and now our inner child can reappear once again this September with the 3D premiere of Finding Nemo. Enough said. Release Date: September 13th.
The Perks of Being A Wallflower: My personal favorite for fall releases, is the film adaption of Stephen Chobosky’s 1999 critically acclaimed book, The Perks of Being A Wallflower. Perks follows an awkward high school freshman, Charlie, as he comes to terms with growing up and discovers the downside to adulthood. Also directed by Chobosky, this film stars Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Paul Rudd. Release Date: September 14th.
The Master: After a seven-year hiatus from Hollywood, Joaquin Phoenix, marks his return to the silver screen in The Master. Set in 1952 America, this film follows the birth and growth of a religious movement with more than questionable motives, an even more questionable leader, and the unraveling of a belief. This film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Release Date: September 21st.
Liberal Arts: If you’re a fan of romantic indie films about college, Liberal Arts will probably be one of your favorite movies. A quasi-coming-of-age film, this film follows a 19 year-old female college sophomore and a 35 year-old professional man and their budding relationship, despite the complications of the 16 year age difference. Liberal Arts stars Josh Radnor, Elizabeth Olsen, and Allison Janney. Release Date: September 14th.
October:
Pitch Perfect: Okay, music lovers, this one is for you! Pitch Perfect follows an all girls a capella group as they go into a battle against a rival all boys a capella group, fighting for the winning title. Yes, it sounds a little dorky, but even my overly sarcastic sense of humor found a couple of giggles in the trailer. Plus, who knew Anna Kendrick can really sing?! This movie not only stars the aforementioned Anna Kendrick, but Brittany Snow and Elizabeth Banks. Release Date: October 5th.
Nobody Walks: You got me, I love my indie flicks. But, I swear this one is definitely worth it! Nobody walks is a snapshot of the complexities intertwining relationships and how quickly dynamics between lovers can change based on what new characters come into play. This film stars Olivia Thirbly, John Kraskinski, and Rosemarie DeWitt. Release Date: October 12th.
The Big Wedding: Because what’s a wedding without a dysfunctional family, lies, gags, and pitfalls? Like any wonderful American comedy film, people lie and others fall in love and in the end someone takes someone to bed. As the Griffen family sets out to marry off their adopted son, family issues get conjured up and a hilarious string of events follow. This star-studded cast includes, Robert DeNiro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Katherine Hiegel, Amanda Seyfried, and Topher Grace. Release Date: October 26th.
November:
Skyfall: In the 23rd installment of the longest film franchise in history, Daniel Craig returns as famed agent, 007. In this film, MI6 comes under a series of threats that may be an inside job and it becomes Bond’s job to find the source and stop the attacks against MI6. Skyfall also stars Judi Dench and Javier Bardem. Release Date: November 9th.
The Silver Linings Playbook: A depressed, mentally unstable man finds love in an equally depressed, mentally unstable woman. Together they find themselves bonding over their issues and the silver linings that life can offer, should one choose to find the silver linings that life undoubtedly has. The Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, and Chris Tucker. Release Date: November 21st.
