2011 proved to be a stellar year for music (Watch the Throne anyone?!?); however, from looking at what is slated to arrive in 2012, music lovers have more than a few reasons to smile.
Mumford and Sons – Unnamed Album – TBA Release Date
Mumford’s first studio LP, Sigh No More, received 2 Grammy nominations and has another 4 pending. On this wave of indie fame, Mumford and Sons is set to release their second album sometime this spring. Still keeping with their same indie/folk trademark sound, the direction of the new album is taking a bit of a more emotional twist with new styles of lyrical thought.
John Mayer – Born and Raised – TBA Release Date
Born and Raised, Mayer’s follow-up to his lack-luster 2009 release, Battle Studies, is a much-anticipated album that doesn’t seem to want to drop. The album was supposed to be released in October 2011, but unfortunately, Mayer was diagnosed with a glandular infection leaving him unable to finish the album. Rumor has it that the Allman Brothers-esque album is set to release sometime this spring.
Kanye West – G.O.O.D. – Spring 2012
When he’s not tarnishing a pop star’s spotlight, calling George Bush a racist, or getting bad reviews at Paris Fashion Week, Kanye West actually makes some pretty good music. His 2011 collaboration with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne, is still topping the charts, so hopefully this new record will be just as promising and accolade filled.
Tyler, the Creator – Wolf – May 2012
Tyler, the Creator’s third studio album, Wolf, is all about less rap and more beats. The morbid subject matter is also taking a back seat to what Tyler calls “weird hippie music for people to get high to.” Whatever direction Wolf ends up taking, what is sure to stay is this young artists dedication to shock value.
The Killers – Battle Born – Summer 2012
Starting work on Battle Born in May 2011, The Killers fourth studio album is set have a heavier reliance on guitars than on their previous albums. However, the Killers are still sticking close to their classic sound, using their older material as foundation for what 2012 has in store.
Wiz Khalifa – O.N.I.F.C. – Fall 2012
Khalifa’s sophomore album with Atlantic Records and follow-up to Rolling Papers has some very high (no pun intended) expectations after his previous album, Rolling Papers, went gold during its first week. Fans can expect the another solid album with a few catchy songs thrown in for good measure. These albums and many more are sure to make 2012 another great year in the history of music! Whether you need to jam out to something new while working, studying for your business management program, walking to school or hanging at a party, these albums are ones you should be sure to check out.
