The 83rd Academy Awards: The Winners, Losers and Highlights

Last nights 83rd Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco, proved to be another shining moment in Oscar history.

Although the hosting by Anne and James is getting mostly negative reviews, for me personally, although a little lackluster, they did the best they could for two actors still considered “newbies” to the world of show biz.

Highlights of the Night:

For me, the best moments were Billy Crystal’s appearance, the witty exchange between Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr., the win for Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Feature Film and Natalie Portman’s win for Best Actress in Black Swan.

Personally, along with many others I’m sure, thought that the Best Picture and/or Best Actor  award would go to The Social Network and/or Jesse Eisenburg. This is not to say that it was a disappointment or a “shame” that The King’s Speech and Colin Firth won instead.

In fact, both films were superbly acted, produced, and directed and I’m glad that all three branches of the film were honored.

For those of us that are old enough to remember the original two Toy Story films, Toy Story 3‘s win for Best Animated Feature Film was one of the highlights of the night.

Growing up, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were my favorite movies and I’m so glad that I got a “nostalgia moment”—to see and be old enough to remember the greatness of Toy Story 3 winning the Oscar.

As there is with every Oscar night, there are moments worth editing out. However, just like the movies they honor, there are some awards shows worth watching and others that deserve to be glazed over.

Thankfully, the 83rd Academy Awards was worth the 3 hours.
