Just when we think we are in control of our lives, we are reminded every so often that we aren’t.
It’s extremely easy to get caught up in college life and forget that there’s another world out there. Every once in a while, we need that reality check to get our priorities straight.
After a week filled with an earthquake AND a hurricane, it’s definitely time for all of us to be thankful for what we have and appreciate what’s around us.
Here are some tips to help you live your life to the fullest:
Tell your friends and family you love them.
Do this as often as you can! We are never guaranteed tomorrow or the next day, so make sure those who are important in your life know that you love them. Even if you don’t say it, your actions can speak louder than your words. Go out of your way to do something special for your parents (like running an errand without having to be asked) or send a friend a handwritten note. Show them that you care.
Appreciate the small stuff.
I learned this one from my dog – the best things in life are the small things. It always fascinates me how he gets so excited to go on a walk in the park or to get his belly scratched. It makes me realize that there’s a lot I take for granted such as clean water and having food on the table. As cliche as it sounds – take the time to smell the roses. I’m not perfect at this – sometimes I get hung up on what I don’t have – but I’m working on it. You should, too.
Don’t go to bed mad.
Nothing is worth going to bed mad about. Even if you can’t resolve a situation in a night – some situations are more complicated than others – learn how to forgive and move past your anger. You can still be upset with what someone has done but to keep that anger all boiled up inside is just a waste of energy. Let it go and try to find a solution.
Make your life easier.
If you know you can’t ever manage to get to work on time every Monday, make yourself go to bed earlier. Get your laundry taken care of before it gets too out of hand. Wake up 15 minutes earlier to have more time to prepare for your day. You never know what can happen next, so keep your life as organized as you can. You will be able to appreciate your life even more when you have less stress.
