Another week brings more Internet and smartphone gadgets to play with! While not all of these are brand spankin’ new, these are all still great resources for you to explore.
Here’s what has made my list and has me “geeking out” this particular week:
Instagram
OK, you iPhone junkies might scoff at me for this choice, but I am an Android user so I haven’t had the luxury of using Instagram for very long since an Android app was only released recently. Although I find the photo dimensions frustrating at times, the filters more than make up for it. The interface is easy to use and I love interacting with my friends. Facebook and Twitter can be a little chaotic at first, so it’s nice to have a more simple (and pretty) way of keeping up with your friends.
Pinwheel
While the website isn’t fully available to the public yet, you can sign up on a waiting list to be part of a small community of testers to try it out. It’s basically a combination of Tumblr and Foursquare — you can leave notes/pictures/quotes about different locations of the world for others to see. It’s a different, unique way of keeping a journal of your life. The website’s FAQs explain it best: “Pinwheel is made of notes. A note can be a story, advice, jokes, diatribes, information, memories, facts, advertisements, love letters, grocery lists and manifestoes. The content of a note is only limited by your imagination. A note can be shared with the world, one to many people, one to one, or only with yourself.”
Unroll.me
Ever annoyed with the crazy amounts of email you get every day? Well, there’s a website for that! With Unroll.me, you can manage your subscriptions so that you only receive one digest email per day. While this website is also still undergoing beta testing, it’s something that I’ve been playing around with. I haven’t had a lot of luck with it yet, but I think — with time — it will be a very useful tool in the future.
DrawSomething
I didn’t think I would be so into this game (mostly because I suck at drawing), but I’ve totally drank the Kool-Aid on this one. It’s basically like a cooler version of Pictionary with words from modern pop culture. One of my favorites to draw is Katniss! Not only do you test your artistic skills, you also have to try to figure out what the heck your friends are trying to draw. Definitely an entertaining way to kill a few minutes! An update was released recently that made my user experience even better. LOVE this game.
New look for Gmail
Every Gmail lover moaned and groaned about the inevitable change of the design. Now, it’s finally live for all — whether you wanted it or not. This Mashable article lines out the specifics of the change. While I see/hear a lot of complaining about it, I don’t get it! I switched over almost as soon as they offered it and I love the new interface. I find it helps me stay organized more easily and the design is just easier on the eyes. I like how I can control just how spaced out everything is. What are your thoughts on the changes?
