Harsh College Realities That Every Student Has to Face

College is one of the most traditional places to study at. Most students will go from high school to college and eventually university if they want to continue further education. However, many people, especially the students, have realized that college could in fact be the biggest waste of time that they’ll ever come across in their lives.

While it’s not true for everyone, college can be one of the more stressful periods of one’s life, especially in the modern age where studying doesn’t have to be done in a formal setting anymore. In the past, it was essential that students gathered at facilities that were designed to educate them, but now, we have the internet to use and new and improved methods of teaching that previously weren’t possible.

So in this article, we’re going to explain a couple of harsh truths about college and why you might want to reconsider your path in life.

Loans can cripple your future

Let’s not beat around the bush–you have to repay that loan and it’s going to be expensive. Education isn’t expensive everywhere in the world, but in the United States, it can cost more than what people are usually willing to pay for. However, that’s usually offset by the promise that it can help you find a better job. Sadly, that just isn’t true in most cases and your student loans will most likely end up crippling your future.

Diplomas are expensive sheets of paper

Most employers look for experience, not a qualification or a diploma. You’re going to have to show that you can actually do what you claim to do, and this requires experience. You have to work from the ground up and do jobs that you really don’t want to, all for the sake of building up experience and showing that you have what it takes to become a part of your industry of choice.

You probably won’t get a job of your choice

And speaking of industries of choice, you’re probably not going to end up in the one you want to work in. If you’ve got a degree in a really specific science, then there’s a very small chance that you’re going to be able to utilize that information you learned.

You have to work hard to get the life you want

If you want something in life, you need to be mindful and aim for it. For example, studying a traditional MSW online is more likely to help you reach your goals than going through a college or university program. It’s more focused, you can do it in your own time and you have more options available to you. If you’re serious about achieving something in life, then you may want to take a more direct approach.

You’ll forget most of the people you met

And lastly, let’s not forget about the people! Although there are plenty of good friends that you’ve made and keep in touch with, the reality is that you’re going to slowly drift apart especially if you work in different careers. This can be a depressing thought for some, but if you really want to chase your dreams and be successful, you’re going to have to live with that reality.
